Sermon of the Week

 Appointment Has Been Scheduled

As part of the process which leads me to the message today, I was remembering when I was a youth pastor, in Guilford Connecticut, one young man named John, who was a new Christian, came to me and said he wanted to know more about receiving the “infilling of the Holy Spirit”… I asked him, do youjust barge into the dentist’s office, or do you make an appointment…. I asked the same about the mechanic, the plumber, the electrician,  or any skilled trade he might have need of.                          Appointments are a way of scheduling their services and it lets them know that you are committed to seeing it through. So I asked John to make an appointment with God to receive the “infilling of the Holy Spirit”… This was Sunday night, and John said, “Tomorrow at your house, at 8:00” He showed up at 7:30 and God showed up at 8:00, and John received the Infilling, with the evidence of “other tongues” according to Acts 2:4…. John went on to college and became a minister of the gospel. His sister, who was also saved and filled under our ministry, is now a pastor’s wife.

You say “Pastor, where is that in the bible?” Let me refer you to…                Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, (Jesus) commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise (appointment) of the Father, which, He said, you have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, will you at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And He said unto them, It is not for you to know the times (the appointments) or the seasons, which the Father has put in His own power. 8 But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the world.”                                                 This is powerful, because it is clear that the Father has scheduled appointments, (times and seasons) for us, and He will keep his promises to us, and through us, to others as well….

You see, before the young man I was speaking of earlier, ever made an appointment with God, God had made an appointment with John….

When I have a need, I call my doctor with my need, and the doctor schedules an appointment, when we can deal with that need….                                                 Since Winnie has been dealing with a spine condition, Over the past several monthsdoctors appointments, have been part of our schedule. Now, all the kids have gotten involved and they’re calling to remind us that we have all these appointments scheduled and we can’t missthem. Between the three of them, I couldn’t forget if I tried to…. I can’t wait to show you the pictures again, when God straightens her back!!!

I began to realize that there is a strong spiritual parallel to all of this, and Holy Spirit began to impress some of this spiritual parallel upon my spirit, and I set out to investigate. I want to share with you some of the findings which came to my attention. Because we all have opportunities that God places in our paths, to nudge us in the direction of our destiny…. Some we grab and some we miss….                                                                                 1 Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Father God has designed the Physical dimension to run parallel with the Spiritual dimension, and they are constantly colliding.                          Jesus used this paradigm in all of His parables… Parables of the sower…. the lost sheep, the good Samaritan…..lost coin, and lost son; the grape vine: the salt….New Wineskins…the Lamp Stand.. the Wise and Foolish Builders….the Mustard Seed….the Leaven bread… the Hidden Treasure….the Wedding Banquet….the Fig Tree….the Ten Virgins….the Talents…..the Sheep and the Goats….. the Moneylender…. the Rich Fool….and on, and on, and on…. An abundant number of references where the spiritual was and is colliding with the physical deminsion…. (Do I have a witness)

Does anyone remember the TV program, “This is your life”? We used to never miss an episode. The program would focus on key events and people in the life of the selected individuals for the show.                              You can type “This is your life” in your browser, and actually get reruns of people who were featured on the show. These individuals who were featured, would get a glimpse of the impact their lives had made on the lives of other people….                                                                                              Well, The Christian experience is a Divine time line of God appointments which have been set for all of us, which are designed by Him to allow Him to be very engaged in our lifejourney. These are adjustments, and timely instructions and seasons of transformation, which are necessary to remain in His will, His plan and in His greater intentions for our lives.                                                                                                                                                                                                    I came across an interesting story about Jack Wugman, as he was walking down the beach one day, he saw an unusual glass bottle. He bent over and picked up the bottle. His life would be forever changed. There was a note inside from a man named Singer. You know of him. He invented and perfected the sewing machine. Singer had put a note, in the bottle, it said, “WHOEVER FINDS THIS BOTTLE, WILL INHERIT MY ENTIRE ESTATE. A judge validated the note, and Jack inherited millions of dollars from a man he never met. What if Jack had never picked up the bottle? Or what if Jack had picked up the bottle, and just brushed it off as a farce…thinking it was a practical joke…

Many folks look at the appointments God has set for them, as a lot of religious rhetoric and like the prodigal, they rebel or give in to fear and lack of trust, and run from what He has planned for them.

But Ephesians 1:4 says “In love He predestined (appointed) us for adoption to himself as His children, through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved.”

We didn’t find the Lord, He appointed us, and planned for us, and in a million ways, brought us to Himself. The difference is that we picked up the bottle, read the note, and received the inheritance!

He appointed Noah to build a boat in the middle of the desert in a time of no rain. Aren’t we glad he kept his appointment… and the world could know that He is the God of second chances…

He appointed a shepherd boy to be King, who would be anointed while he continued keeping sheep in the desert, and would thenbecome one of the greatest kings of israel, through whom the line of Christ would flow.

He appointed a Moabite woman, outside the covenant, to marry Boaz, and because Ruth kept the appointment, she, who had no place, was grafted in, and chosen in the lineage of Christ.

Moses had an appointment with God to face the most powerful man in the world at that time, so that He could free a nation of people, who would be God’s chosen, and build a city which would become God’s end time clock to count down end time events…                                                                And God used Moses to schedule appointments for these chosen people, and in a larger way, for all the earth…                                                                        Those Divine appointments are given in the 7 feast of Israel….

Leviticus 23:4 “These are the LORD’s appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times.”

The 7 feasts of Israel, are actually appointments God made with His people… In the original language these feasts are the “mo-e-dim” or appointments of God with His people…..(set times) which cannot be altered, because God has set them in their place….

The Mo-e-dim are a time to remember and reflect on all the occasions when God revealed Himself as mighty and strong, loving and holy, as Guardian, shepherd, warrior, creator, instructor, helper, provider, King and Lord, Judge and advocate, who adds and who takes away. Blessed is the Name of The Lord! The 7 annual feasts tell the story of a journey from bondage to the promised land, with the built in promise that past appointments, are a shadow of appointments yet to come.

Each Mo-e-dim fulfilled, points to the Mo-e-dim yet to be fulfilled in this 7000 year time line of divine appointments which will bring us on a scenic tour of former times, current times, and on into the rapture, the tribulation, the second coming, the millennium, the great white throne, the new heavens and earth, and on into when time is no more…..

You can see that there are four Spring mo-e-dim (or appointments) and three Fall Mo-e-dim.

The Spring Mo-e-dim are….Passover…..Feast of Unleavened Bread…. First Fruits….and Festival of Weeks (or Pentecost)which have all been fulfilled in Christ.

The Fall Mo-e-dim are….Feast of Trumpets…..Day of Atonement…. And Feast of Tabernacles…. And these Are yet to be fulfilled.

In dying on the cross, Yeshua (Christ) fulfilled the first two festivals. Passover deals with redemption through the death of a lamb. Unleavened Bread is about getting rid of leaven (sin). The death of the Lamb of God (Passover) paid the price for our indebtedness and gave us freedom from sin.

Yeshua’s resurrection from the grave fulfilled the holiday of First Fruits. This holiday is honored by offering God the first of the produce.                                1 Corinthians 15:20 says it perfectly: “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, andbecome the first fruits of all those who have fallen asleep.”

The Feast of trumpets is the celebration bringing in the Jewish New Year which is in early September. Which means the rapture will be in September of whatever year that takes place, because every feast was fulfilled by Christ in the month when it occurred. It is a time of repentance, forgiveness, and celebration. Trumpets are sounded, and there is dancing and great celebration. It is also a symbol of the rapture, when instead of a new year, a new era is about to be ushered in. The trumpet in heaven will sound at the same time as the Jewish trumpets are blowing in Jerusalem, in September…The rapture will take place during the feast of trumpets….. It has already been appointed.

The Feast called the day of atonement… is also known as The Days of Awe, and will be fulfilled during the tribulation, when things will happen in the earth, which will boggle the minds and strike fear in the hearts of those dwelling on earth, who missed the rapture. The 7 year Tribulation will be ushered in right after the Feast of trumpets, in early to mid September….

The final feast or appointment, is The Feast of Tabernacles, which is celebrated in the middle of October. It commemorates the time in the wilderness when they had no permanent dwelling place, so, they build temporary shelters and, they spend the night in, tents, lean two’s, reed shelters, or a canvas stretched over poles…. But when they came into the promised land, every man had land and a home. And it will be fulfilled in the Millenium when they will have a permanent home, prepared by the lord, and when the world will dwell in peace for 1000 years under the reign of Christ! In this Feast, God is telling them that this has already been appointed, it is settled and done!

Man may promise things and not show up, but God keeps His appointments…. He will always fulfill His word, or He will have to resign as God…. Knowing what is coming, shouldn’t we pay attention to the appointments of the Lord and not let fear, intimidation, lack of ability, or pressure from friends and family hold us back…

Dear Abby, who had a daily counseling column in most of the major news papers, once wrote in her column about a lifeguard who was being charged with the death of a teenager. The lifeguard was working at a large pool with two or three others, and each had a specific area to cover. He was approached by a group of teenagers excitedly telling him of someone who was lying at the bottom of the pool. His answer was, “Sorry, but that’s not my area. I’m not responsible for what happens in that area.” The teen rescued by other swimmers died. It wasn’t enough to ignore what didn’t affect him, he was trained and qualified to step out of his own area and intervene. Which made him responsible.

So here’s what God has to say about what our responsibility is….

Scripture says Ezekiel 3:18 “If I know that the wicked, are under the penalty of death, but I fail to deliver the warning to them, they will die in their sins. But I the Lord, will hold you responsible for their deaths”. Another version says, “Their blood will I require at your hand”.

God is serious about the appointments He has set up for us…..

There was an old farmer, sitting on the steps of his tumble-down shack, just taking up space. He was approached by a passing stranger searching for a drink of cool water. Attempting to be friendly, the stranger asked, “How is your cotton doing this year” --- “Ain’t got none.” --- “Didn’t you plant any?” --- “Nope, afraid of weevils.” --- “Well, how is your corn doing?” --- “Ain’t got non. Afraid there wasn’t going to be no rain.” --- “What did you plant?” --- “Nothing, I jest played it safe!”

Many of are like that farmer. He played it safe. He wasn’t willing to risk, he wasn’t willing to take a chance. He was afraid his work would be for nothing or that he would fail. So, he planted no crop made no effort and as a result, he had no harvest either.

That thinking has no place in the life of a child of God, because our labor is never in vain in the Lord. He keeps His appointments!

Nearly everyone remembers the story of the sinking of the Titanic. Of the 2,000 passengers on board, 1517 were lost. Only 438 were saved. At the time the Titanic went down, another ship, the California was only 30 miles away. The Titanic’s operator frantically sent out SOS please but the wireless operator on the California had gone to bed and left no one in charge, when he turned off the equipment. Help was available but because the wireless operator was sleeping, the California sailed on its way totally unaware of the tragedy. Are there those near us who could use our help but we don’t feel adequate, or responsible, or spiritual enough? We have been selected by Christ to help someone make it to their appointment with God. If not now, when? If not you and me, then who?

Isaiah 6:8-13 "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send... and who will go for us?  And I said, 'Here am I, Lord, send me”!

Some folks confuse pre-appointment and predestination with the removal of choice on our part….. however that is not what the scripture that is so used by those who say it’s all decided, and we have nothing to say about it are saying…..look at

Romans 8:29 “For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might He be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters”.

This is not saying that God chooses who will be saved and who will be lost, it is saying that God, who is omniscient, having all knowledge of past, present and future, knows what our choices will be, without interfering with those choices. If you believe that God has already appointed some to be saved, then you must also believe that He has appointed some to be lost… So if we believe that we cannot lose our salvation, then we must also believe that we can never lose our state of lostness…. Which is a contradiction to the entire concept of Grace…                                                                                                 We are all predestined to be conformed to Christ’s image, but the scripture also says, “He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance”. And yet, reality is that millions will not come to repentance, even though, God is willing that they be saved.

This is called Free Will…..So just because God wants it, He is not willing to override our free will, which is an amazing thing! We have the ability to stop the blessing of God, to stop the redemptive work of Christ, and to keep the powerful force of God’s grace from working in our lives. That’s free will.

So the annual feast and appointments, celebrate the God who keeps His word, and cannot lie. Many who celebrate these appointments, which He has established, will not enter in, because they have not received the revelation that it is all fulfilled in Christ. And if you leave Christ out of the equation, then you are like the five foolish virgins who showed up at the wedding, but were not allowed to enter in….

Many times God will direct people to go to a certain place, you may not even know why you are going there, but the Spiritual is colliding with the Physical…God will give you the reason later.

Oral Roberts tells of getting off of his plane, when He sensed this spiritual colliding with the physical. He had a busy schedule, but instead of going to the terminal, he walked to the end of the runway, then through a field, then he walked througha neighborhood. God had directed him to knock on a certaindoor of a certain house, and when the lady opened the door she asked, are you the man of God who has come to pray for my husband. Oral Roberts said, yes I am, and went to the back room, prayed for the man, who was instantly healed.

I need to tell somebody, to get ready for some divine appointments, that are coming your way… It may not be your end of the pool, but do it any way, because history and eternity will change because you did….

Paul got knocked off his horse and saw the light…. Mary became the mother of Jesus although she had never been with a man… Samson’s mom, was barren, but gave birth to one of the nations greatest deliverers….Gideon defeated 120,000 troops with just 300 men….Joshua saw the sun and moon stand still for hours….prison doors opened, seas divided, water came from a rock, the blind saw, the deaf heard, the dead rose up, and thousands were fed on a little boys lunch, when two worlds collided….and physical things collided with the spiritual realm….

Get ready for some collisions in your life…. Believe for it and open your spirit to receive it, in the name of Jesus….

It’s Time To Get Desperate

We sang the song today, “I’m desperate for You”……and I want us all to know, God is waiting for some folks to get desperate….Some folks will never get delivered until they are desperate enough…They will never get what they’re asking God for until they get desperate enough….

When the woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus, she was at the moment of desperation, and Jesus said, “Your (desperate) faith has made you whole”… it should say….“Your (desperate) faith has made you whole”

Take a look at James 5:16 “The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much”. Another way of saying (When the righteous get desperate)  stuff happens)

The bible tells of a man who got unexpected company at midnight, and had nothing to give them to eat. He was desperate, andknocked on his neighbor’s door. The neighbor didn’t want to get up and respond to his need, but because he was desperate, he kept on knocking until the neighbor got up and gave him what he needed! It’s time to get desperate!

In Esther 4:16 we see the words of a desperate person…. “Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and then, I will go in unto the king, which is not in accordance to the law, and if I perish, I perish.”

God is looking for people who are desperate to see Him move. He is looking for risk takers who are ready to say, “if I perish I perish” just like Esther. God is looking for people with unshakable faith that are ready to move out of their comfort Zone and into the desperation zone.

Tony Robbins said, “In life you need either inspiration or desperation”.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Jim Carrey said, ”Desperation is a necessary ingredient to learning anything, or creating anything, period. If you ain'tdesperate at some point, you’re not really interested in making a difference”.                                                                                 Anne Lamott said, “I've heard people say that sometimes God comes as the gift of desperation, whenyou've run out of any more good ideas for how to save and fix and rescue.”

Esther 3:13 gives a brief description of what the desperate times they were in, looked like….. “And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to confiscate all their possessions”.

Esther was desperate to save her people, who were going to be exterminated. (that sounds familiar doesn’t it) Hey, guess what, Satan has arrived in our neighborhood, to steal, kill, and destroy…. We face the same scenario that Esther faced… If we could overhear what Satan is planning for our loved ones, and ourselves, as he meets in the conference room of hell with his demon commanders, believe me, we would get desperate! There would be no place for complacency.

How desperate are we to see our family, our coworkers, our friends and neighbors we meet every day, come to Christ and follow Him?                   How desperate are we about our level of spirituality?                                                Wow, Enoch was known as the man who walked with God, in his time. What a reputation! And he was not because God took him! One day they just kept on walking to glory!

How desperate are we to know and obey His will for our life? How desperate are we for our nation, I mean after all, we have to live here? How desperate are for Holy Spirit to have His way in us?                                      Oh, I’m getting desperate!

Jacob said to the angel he wrestled with at Bethel, “I will not let you go until the blessing I receive!

Our level of desperation, will determine the depth of our walk with God.

God is looking for some "Whatever It Takes” men and women and young people, who will live like Paul the Apostle who describedhow he lived his life, in Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ & I no longer live, (my self life) but Christ lives in me and the life I now live I live by the faith of the Son of God.”                                                                                                                     Hey, that’s another way of saying “Whatever it takes”

Is there a point in our lives when we were more desperate for God than we are now. What if we go back and start at that place, and this time turn up the heat, fan the flame, press in more, and learn a lesson from what cooled us down, so we don’t let it happen again. Was there a time when we prayed more, read our bible more, witnessed to others more, attended church more, or just had a greater passion for Christ.

There are sins of commission as well as sins of omission. We can sin by what we do, and we can sin by what we know to do but don’t do it!              When David was caught in sin, he writes in….                                                   Psalm 51:3 “For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. v4 Against you, and you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight…”                                                                                                           Notice David realized this was about a violation of his level of relationship with God. He said “For I know my transgressions”…                             The word “transgression” means “to intentionally cross a forbidden boundary”… David realizes that the sins he committed, were because of the sins of omission. It’s what he didn’t do to strengthen his relationship with God that caused him to do what he did, to distance his relationship with God.

Jesus addressed the sins of omission in Matthew 16….

Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.  26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his soul”.

Woah, that leads me to the question “Can a believer lose their salvation”… John Wesley said, if “once saved always saved is true, no virgin’s lamp should go out, no promising harvest should be choked with thorns, no branch in Christ that doesn’t bear fruit should ever be cut off, and thrown into the fire, no forgiveness could ever be forfeited, no name could ever be blotted out of the lamb’s book of life, no salt could ever lose its savor, no one who is lukewarm should ever be spit out of God’s mouth, a coin, a sheep, and a prodigal son can get lost, a backslider needs to reconsider his standing with God, or he can be lost for all eternity! I must agree with Wesley….

Jesus said if we are going to truly follow Him, we must deny ourselves… The self life, will always try to insert itself between us and our relationship with Him. “Whoever loses his focus on the self life for my sake will save it” is another way of saying whatever it takes, we will follow Jesus!                                                                                                                                                                                       Too many Christians, are talking the walk, but not walking the talk.  When this happens, we’re not bridging that gap between knowing about, and talking about following Jesus and actually following Him.                                                          But when we get to the “Whatever it takes” level of living, the world’s culture will look at us, and no longer will they see a bunch of “wannabees” who have missed the message of the guy we claim to follow. But Instead, what they’ll see is a community of people who have once and for all made up their minds that being Christlike, is our only option. And it is then, that those who are watching us live our lives, will get interested enough to try it for themselves!

It’s not complicated, it’s called following Jesus.

Our desperation, to have Jesus as our life style, means that we have a new standard for living our lives.

We not only need to get desperate, but stay desperate….. We are the people of God, who live a lifestyle of quite desperation…

But to follow Him, we must LET GO OF THE PAST

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, v14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (In other words, whatever it takes)

If you don’t have clear goals, then anything, or anyone, or any place, or anyhow, will do. If you don’t have goals, then how will you know when you get there, that you’re there!

It’s funny how, without realizing it, we can slip into “the good old days,” dwelling on the past, of how things used to be and how we used to do things. That’s when we begin to make it about us and our comfort zone, and not about Him. Jesus simply said, follow me. That means we may have to let go of moments of how it used to be and FOLLOW HIM!                    Being desperate means we must be willing to learn from the past, but move on from the past, and be willing to change whatever we’re doing that is pulling us back, and not allowing us to break free, bring it all to the here and now, where the rubber meets the road, and move forward in Christ.

After all, didn’t Jesus tell us in Luke 5:37-39 “No one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved”.

Wine here represents the ways of the Spirit, and the skins represent our earthly bodies, minds and emotions…..God is doing a new thing, but we won’t be able to fit it into the old wine skins of the way it was or used to be…. “Brethren, this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind I am reaching forward to those things which are ahead”.

Whatever it takes may mean, just HOLDING ON TO YOUR FAITH

Don’t allow the enemy to keep you in the prison of fear and doubt, that this is not possible or that is not possible. if you’re not operating in faith, you’re not operating in the power of the Lord.                                                             In spite of what it looks like, Inspite of the unknown and untested that’s coming upon you, in spite of how bad the situation is, hold on to your faith.

Psalm 16:8... David declared, “I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken”.                                                                                                             John the Baptist, that free spirit who ministered in the wilderness, could not be confined by prison bars. His spirit was still free, because his faith went deep into the bedrock of the call of God on his life and the anointing upon his ministry.

God already saw you on the other side, the moment He called you, and put His spirit within you…. He saw you enjoying the fruit of victory, long before you got there, living your whatever it takes lifestyle with a “Never the Less” mentality. No matter what my fears, the self life, and my vain imaginings are saying…. There is a “Never the less at thy word, I will do it” pushing all that back……                                                                              If He’s ever done it before, He’ll do it again! God is no respecter of persons…. He’s the same today as yesterday and will be tomorrow. He changes not, and His word is eternal and transcends time and circumstances, He’s still bigger than your impossibilities.

Whatever it takes may mean, JUST BE STILL…..

Sometimes “Whatever it Takes”, means To  literally relax and take your hands off and watch God move! We must learn how to let the Lord fight our battles…We must allow God to move in His own time and way.

Psalm 37:7 “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. 9 For those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land”.                                                                          When my son Chris, was 3, he tried to unplug the Christmas tree with his mouth. The saliva conducted the current into his mouth and tongue and knocked his head onto his back and melted a hole in the left cheek and lip. David was 6, and drug him into the kitchen and informed Winnie that Chris was dead. A neighbor took them to the hospital, I was working, and by the time they got him to the patient room, they watched the skin heal over and fill in the opening as Winnie quoted the promises that God had made.

When the Lord speaks specifically about a certain area that He has already done…. We can consider it already accomplished,  Youdon’t have to fight that battle… stop struggling, stop wrestling… just be still, and receive it. It was already yours! Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen…..

If you have $50.00 in your pocket, and you need $50.00, Why ask God for it? Reach in your pocket and apply it to what you need.

Mark 11:24 ”Therefore I say unto you, whatever things you desire when you pray, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them.”

One pastor announced to the church, “I have good news and bad news. We have all the money we need to finish our building project, the bad news is that it’s still in your pocket”!!!

Sometimes the hardest thing is to wait. To empty your mind and shut down your feelings, and emotions, and pain, so that you can tune in to the Spirit and know that we are Spirit beings who have a soul, that live in a body. Flesh always wants to be the bully, but what we feed and nurture is what will dominate in our lives.                                                                           Whatever it takes means, LAUNCH OUT AND MOVE FORWARD as the Lord directs. He’s already been where you’re going and He knows, what is waiting for you, even though you don’t. And that’s enough!

Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.

The only way you’re going to move out into the deeper water, is to step off the shore, or pull the anchor that is holding you in that spot.                 Ezekiel went through the different levels of experience himself….but he continued to press forward….Where you are now, does not determine where you must stay….God has level upon level waiting for you….

Ezekiel 47: 3 “Going on eastward with a line in his hand, He led me through the water; and it was ankle-deep. v4 Again He measured, and led me through the water; and it was knee-deep. Again He measured, and led me through the water; and it was up to the loins. v5 Again he measured, and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had risen; it was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be passed through”.

It is time to keep launching forward into the deep end and allow God to take control. We must lay down our mindset, lay down our way of thinking, lay down our attitude and perception of things, and be desperate for the move of God. And the new thing He is bringing our way.

Luke 5:4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Oh, my, I feel a prophetic voice in that for us today. Do what you’ve never done, go where

you’ve never gone, be what you’ve never been and you will see what you have never seen.

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results…. Jesus said, try a new way, a new approach, a new method , and the harvest you desire will come to you. The results you need will be waiting for you.

Whatever it takes may mean CRYING OUT IN DESPERATE PRAYERS Intercession is when we put ourselves in the place of the one we are praying for….(now that will make you desperate) I would never want to be in some people’s place! And yet if I’m desperate enough for souls, I will choose the intercessor’s path, even though my mental and emotional self would say no!

The Lord rebuked me this week, because I spoke a negative word about Biden. He said, have you prayed for him before you passed judgment on him…. Woah, I immediately stopped and began to pray for President

Biden. Because the health of the country is at stake! So now, I’m praying that he would stop lying and be honest with the American people! My next step is to go to the polls and vote… pull the lever, use the power given unto me, and sign on the dotted line…                                                                                                                     Our opening scripture today, says in… James 5:16 that “The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (gets results)”. That sounds like desperation to me!

Here’s the exciting part…. If we are willing to do whatever it takes, we can trust God to do the same….To go out of His way, to walk in our shoes, and feel what we feel…

Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin”.                                                                                    1 John 5:15 And we know that if He hears us when we pray, we know that we have the requests that we asked of him”.                                                      This means that Jesus puts Himself in our place as the great intercessor, so that we might take our rightful place in His victory…. He became our substitute, so we could stand in His health, His righteousness, His supply, His riches in glory, His completeness and His victory….

Our God is relentless and unstoppable….                                                      He was there with a saving hand out, when Peter stepped out of the boat                                                                                  He did whatever it took, to reach a prodigal son at his lowest point….. When Paul was the hatchet man for the religious leaders, killing Christians, and trying to destroy the church, God tracked him down and did whatever it took to turn him around….                                                           When the 3 Hebrews were so desperate for God that they were willing to be thrown in a fiery furnace, the fourth man did whatever it took, and

showed up in the flames with them…..                                                              When the Israelites were up against the Red Sea, with Pharaoh closing in, God did whatever it took, and opened the Red Sea so they could cross…..

Over and over again, we can see that when God saw believers who were willing to do whatever it takes, He more than matched their dedication….. He moved mountains; He made a path through the sea; He brought water in the desert; He held the moon in it’s place; He made an axe head to float; and a donkey to talk; He healed the sick and raised the dead, commanded demons to leave, and over ruled Kings and kingdoms, made something from nothing, and breathed a part of Himself into every human being, and we call it life! God is relentless and unstoppable….

It is never too late, this side of heaven, to get desperate for the Lord, and start living a life style of “whatever it takes”.                                                                      It is never too late for the Church to turn it around. It is not too late for the message of Christ to put new passion in our hearts and direct our paths. Time is still available to shrug off our self-reliance and embrace our utter inability to do anything apart from the power, love and mercy of Christ.

And when God sees that level of desperation in us today, He will move heaven and earth to do whatever needs to be done, in our behalf, or the behalf of our family. And He will do it in ways we had never thought of. And perhaps He will do it in a way never done before…..

Isaiah 55:8"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts".

And we say, “Lead me guide me, have your way…..Oh, Lord, my king Have Your way!”

Closing Prayer….

“Lord Jesus, speak Your words of wisdom and guidance over our lives today, for we live in desperate times, which require desperate measures. Be with us, Father and enable us to speak the right words, make the right choices, and choose the right opportunities. Guide us in choosing which direction will open the right doors and cause relationships to flourish, and the right connections to take place.                                                Lord, help us to follow Your ways as You lead us into a life of fulfillment and joy. Let us be like a well-watered garden which thrives and is productive because the roots are firmly planted in Your word and Your love. Lord, help us grow in character and in developing our God given skills and talents for Your glory. Lord, by Your Spirit, lead usand teach us as we grow in greater spiritual discernment and wisdom.

Help us to see and understand the positives and negatives in every situation, opportunity, and decision that we face. we are weak, but You are our strong tower. We trust in Your mighty power to surround us, guide us and keep us.Father God, give us the boldness to seize and pursue all the opportunities and goals that You’ve planned for our lives.                                                                                                                                  Lord, When we become overwhelmed with the pressures of life and the decisions that are placed uponus, please give us Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Clear ourminds to follow You with all of our heart, our soul, our mind, and all of ourstrength. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, we pray, Amen”.

Today, my message is about “The Abiding Anointing”….

The abiding anointing described in 1 John 2:27 is a vital key for all believers.

1 John 2:27 “But the anointing which you have received “of Him” abides in you, and you do not need that any man teach you this, but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him”.

Let’s break this verse down to understand what it is saying about this level of anointing, it’s talking about the one that allows you to abide in Jesus because He abides in you. It begins with, “But the anointing which you have received of him.”                                                The first thing I want you to notice is the word “ofHim”.           John says this anointing is of God, not just from God.                                The anointing that is in you is greater than the enemy that is against you.

This anointing “of” Him is separate from the one “from” Him. The one “of Him” is the inner anointing for living the Christian life, described here in 1 John. The one from Him is the outer anointing for ministry described in                                                                    Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Notice that here, the power “comes on you”….scripture tells us to put on the whole armour of God…..Put it on, and walk in what’s on you!  There is a reason these words (of Him and from Him) are not the same. It seems simple, but it took me years to discover this, and when you grasp this, it will change your entire understanding. That’s why I’m sharing it with you. The anointing for living is “of” God; the anointing for ministry is “from” God.

God told Noah to seal the ark inside and outside. The anointing breaks the power of inner sins, as well as the curse that comes against us outside. This anointing originates from in you and manifest outside of you. The empowering anointing (which is the anointing for ministry) rests on you. The empowering anointing for ministry comes as you learn to walk in that revelation, but the abiding anointing comes at salvation. The abiding anointing grants us all that is of God…the term “of God” indicates that what is in God comes into you and me. Let me put it this way…

The anointing that is in you, is like a spiritual gyroscope to keep you on balance as you strive to live the Christian life and walk a walk that is pleasing to God and impowers us in the struggles within, so we can see breakthrough in the world outside of us..

When a Jewish person brought their sacrifice to the priest, to be offered in their behalf…. The priest didn’t examine the person, the priest examined the lamb which was to be the sacrifice. The requirement was specified by God, as to what sacrifice He would accept, then the grace, the redemption, the forgiveness, was of God. The gift of pardon, and removal of sins was of God, and God then gave His Holiness, His pass to freedom, and wiped the slate of sin clean, as though it never happened.                                                                              All of this was because the sacrifice passed inspection, so the person could go free, and have the abiding anointing as a reality in their life….Your sacrifice has passed inspection, so that you may have Holy Spirit’s anointing in you and upon you…. When the sacrifice which was brought, was accepted, the person was accepted as forgiven, redeemed, and the slate wiped clean. We present our sacrifice, through which we are accepted.

We don’t have to chase after the anointing, believers should remember they already have the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is not given in part, He does not come in portions or doses. We get the full Holy Spirit, now we determine if we will give Him our full selves….

In his beautiful book, “I Shall Not Want,” Robert Ketchum tells of a Sunday School teacher who asked her group of children if anyone could quote the entire 23rd Psalm. A golden-haired, four-and-a-half-year-old girl was among those who raised their hands. The teacher was skeptical, and asked the girl if she could really quote the entire psalm. The little girl came to the front of the room, faced the class, made a little bow, and said, “The Lord is my *…….shepherd, that’s all I want.” She bowed again and went and sat down. The teacher said, that was the best version of the 23rd Psalm she had ever heard. If the Lord is truly my shepherd, I shall not want!                                                                                                We have the promise in 2 Peter 1:3 that “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by his own glory and goodness”.

Scripture doesn’t say chase down the anointing, it says in 2 Timothy 1:6 “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you ”….

There are three signs of the abiding anointing: hunger, faith and love. These three things happen at salvation, the moment you become one with the Lord Jesus.

1. First, there is Hunger                                                                          When a babies are born, they are born hungry. In the physical realm, hunger is the sign of life. It’s the same in the spiritual realm. The minute you were born again, if you were truly born again….. you were born with a spiritual hunger. From that moment, spiritual hunger is part of your life. You hunger for His word, His plan and will, you hunger for His presence and His pleasure… How can I please you Lord, what would You have me be, and what would you have me do. That hunger is stronger than everything else…. Psalm 42:1 “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God”.                                                                                                  Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled”.

2. Then, there is faith. The second thing that happens at salvation is this explosion of faith. You know that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for your sins and that He rose from the dead. How do you know that reality? You not only read it in a book or heard it. You know it by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives you an inner knowing that you belong to Him, that He loves you, that heaven is your home, that there is power in the blood to set you free, and that you are redeemed. That inner knowing is faith. You receive God-given faith, and therefore you don’t have to convince yourself it’s real, you know you are not the same person you used to be. The Lord becomes real to you—more real thanthe things you used to make your priorities and goals.                                                                      Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”                          3. Then, there is Love                                                                               The third thing that comes alive at salvation is the Holy Spirit gives you a love for the Lord Jesus, like you have never known and a desire to know the Lord, a desire to walk with Him, a desire to serve Him. The minute that oneness with the Lord Jesus takes place, there is a great desire to know Him, as a friend, a shepherd, a teacher, a counselor, your mentor, and Lord of your life. The Bible says that even though we haven’t seen the Lord Jesus, we love Him 1 Peter 1:8 “Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy”

So, the abiding anointing begins to manifest immediately as a hunger for God. When I got saved, I wanted more of what I had tasted of Him.                                                                                           Then, I became aware at some level, that I was a child of God. When I got saved, no one had to tell me. I just knew it by faith. The Holy Spirit put that faith in me with such a strong sense of reality. Paul said, “I live by the faith “Of” the son of God”….Not just faith “from” God, but there was an indwelling “of a God” connection….

And third, my reaction was, “Jesus, I love You!” Those three things are the signs of life in Jesus, which begin our relationshipwith Him: hunger, faith and love. STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!

Hunger Leads to Fellowship …..The minute your relationship with God begins, hunger leads you to yearn for fellowship. Please don’t miss that: hunger leads to fellowship. When we become one with Christ Jesus, “the abiding anointing” is released, and You want to be with those of like precious faith. There is strength in numbers. A two fold cord is not easily broken….In fellowship, joys are multiplied and struggles are minimized, iron sharpens iron, and each gift and skill set, gives added strength. We become accountable and we learn to walk together. On the day of Pentecost. They were of one mind and one accord, in one place…                                                    Hebrews 10:25 “Do not forsake assembling together, as the custom of some is, but continue exhorting, (encouraging and building up) one another; and so much the more, as you see the day (Christ’s appearing) drawing nigh”…

We need to understand that the abiding anointing reveals who the Lord is in our lives and what place He has in our lives.                                     I appreciate Tim TeeBow sharing that in all the goals he has had in his life, Jesus is always first, priority… That’s the hunger, and the love, and the faith.. He was censored for taking a knee for Jesus, and putting John 3:16 as a sun block under his eyes… but they allowed those promoting the Black Lives matter movement to take a knee and they applauded it…. (don’t get me started now!)

The abiding anointing protects our hearts from deception. John 16:13 “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth”.                                                                                    The abiding anointing causes us to stay in fellowship with the Lord who is the way, the truth and the light.

How can we know the truth? – How can we know the glory of Christ? – How can we know the Father…. If we do not know the Holy Spirit – it is the Holy Spirit – the indwelling anointing that teaches, trains, leads and equips us – it is actually the Holy Spirit that reveals Jesus to us and the path of truth.

John 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you”.

O hear me today, we must come to KNOW the Holy Spirit – there is no more precious pursuit, there is nothing of more value in all this creation than knowing the Holy Spirit.                                                                                                                                    We must not assume because we have been baptized in the Holy Spirit that we have arrived –We can speak in tongues and not be abiding in the anointing

I will guarantee that the worst sinner in this city, can tell you quite a bit about what a Christian aught to be, how they aught to live and what they should stand for and against. They haven’t been taught that, and maybe have never darkened the door of a church, or sat through a sermon, or opened a bible, or had any desire to serve the Lord themselves, But they can tell you….what a Christian aught to be. Our job is not to out argue with them, our task is to live it before them…..

Listen to Jesus describe abiding in the anointing……

Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives Andrecovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed…                                  That same anointing is abiding in and upon us!

Then look as Jesus addresses the price of the anointing….    Luke 6:12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. (that’s full surrender to the anointing)

Luke 5:16 “So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed”…..But look at all the results, which we benefit from because of that level of surrender.

When it comes to the anointing, it’s not time to look for a bargain, it’s not located on the discount table, and the price is not up for negotiation…..

D.L. Moody said “The world has yet to see what God can do with, for, through and in a man who is fully and wholly surrendered and consecrated to Him.”

Abiding in the anointing will cause ministry opportunities while you are just out, living your life!Because your inner spiritual gyroscope is now working properly….and brings about a balance in all of the areas of life.

It’s called The surrendered life….

Abiding in the anointing is an everyday, every moment thing. Men like Smith Wigglesworth, John G Lake, A AAlan, or Oral Roberts, just to mention a few, were so determined to Know the Holy Spirit and the glory of Jesus that they prayed hours every day, just praying to stay sensitive To His inner voice – to be aware of His indwelling Presence –and the most wonderful thing was that these men, were abiding in the anointing. They KNEW Jesus and saw Him as others rarely did!! And they saw Him work in their lives as few others rarely did…. Jack Coe’s son, who received his dad’s healing anointing, was Jack Coe Jr. He’s the one who prayed for our son Chris, with infected tonsils, when he was twelve, and when he prayed, Chris swallowed his tonsils, with no further complications the rest of his life…..

As these men kept the Lord always in their conscious minds, and they brought every thought captive, they began to KNOW the mind of Christ, and they learned obedience, – they learned to respond to the voice of the Spirit, and it was that, which gave them authority and power – it allowed them to see miracles and healing and experience great levels of faith. They had a continual consciousness of the Presence of the Spirit of Christ and they carried that presence with them.

I’ve always thought this next scripture had such a powerful New Testament church application!

Deuteronomy 33:24 “And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, (that’s fellowship) and let him dip his foot in oil”.

The name Asher means “Happy and blessed”…. Let the Happy and blessed ones dip their foot in oil…..And if his foot is dipped in oil, representing the anointing, then he is going to leave oil stains everywhere he goes and in everything he does. There will be a residue of oil that he leaves behind, to mark everything he touches….Hallelujah, what a beautiful picture of the abiding anointing!!!

Not only will the church be healthy, full of joy, and flowing in the Spirit, but sinners, our families, and our fellow workers, will be glad for the fact that we are abiding in the anointing.

All the way home from church,  in the back seat of the car the little boy was unusually quiet. His father asked him three times what was wrong. Finally, the boy replied, “Well, Dad, today the preacher said he wanted us all brought up in a Christian home, but I wanted to stay here with you guys.”

Ephesians 5:25-27  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

This is a beautiful picture of intimacy and closeness, of unhurried relationship – of cleansing and development – it is not a picture of busy ness and haste but of rest and trust and waiting with patience and desire. Like being refreshed in our souls and being immersed in the still waters of the spirit –as we abide in the anointing.

Genesis 1:1–2 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God hovered (brooded or incubated) over the face of the waters.

The anointing of God, does that through us…. He incubates, hatches, brings forth, something from nothing… He takes what is there and pre-forms, (before anything there was God) He un-forms, (He will allow it to be taken away to give something better) He in-forms, (He said let there be) He re-forms, (the potter shapes the clay, and it was so) and He trans-forms it (bringing it into His intentions and purposes, so it will bring Him greater glory)! So that He could say….( it is good!)

(look at somebody and say “It is good”!)

The anointing of God is within us hovering and incubating, bringing forth, shaping and forming….It is the Abiding anointing!

That’s what the word of God is talking about when we read in….

John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, youwill ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you”.

He is constantly working in behalf of those who are abiding, and ordering events and circumstances in their lives……It was the Holy Spirit who closed the door on the ark so the waters would not rush in. – It was the Holy Spirit who empowered Samson, to do mighty exploits– it was the Holy Spirit who transformed Gideon, from a fearful coward, to a courageous leader…..he elevated Daniel and filled the temple of Solomon with GLORY! –

It was the Holy Spirit who empowered Elijah and took him home by chariot of fire,….. it was the Holy Spirit upon Paul and Peter and John and the others that saw miracles and healing and He brought dreams and revelations ---

And one final scripture That is the theme of Eagles’ Rest….. Isaiah 40:28-31  “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint”.

In closing, let me say, that Scripture speaks about the Kingdom of God, that is in us… The grace of God, which abides in us… the will of God, that is our destiny….The peace of God that is in us…..The love of God that flows through us…..The wisdom of God, that operates through us……The righteousness of God, which operates in us…..The glory of God, the power of God, the favor of God, the truth of God, the goodness of God, all are in us by the abiding anointing we have received and have entered into….

Thank you Lord for the anointing we have received for living this Christian life, and the anointing for ministry to those around us…Lord, we stir up and release and receive the abiding anointing from You and of You.
